During an interview with a US radio station, Justin discussed the significance of including the emotional track "Ghost" on his new album, explaining that the song is about loss and can be related to the experiences of those who have lost loved ones during the coronavirus pandemic as well as other types of loss.
A lot of people, he continued, "are losing loved ones right now due to this insane epidemic. Many others, however, have experienced the loss of loved ones due to circumstances other than death. These occurrences may not include a physical passing, but the absence of someone who was once a part of their lives.
So, "it may seem like a loss almost like you're mourning that person," as the narrator of the song puts it, "so this song is sort of like the feeling of grieving that person but yet having hope in the process."
