But how did Thunder come to be? In an interview with Songfacts, lead singer Dan Reynolds explained:
"The song Thunder started with a drum beat that our drummer Daniel Platzman had been playing around with. We were in the studio and he was just kind of messing around on the drums and I remember hearing it and being like, 'That's really cool.' So I sat down at the piano and started playing this melody over top of it and we just kind of built from there."
Reynolds went on to say that the song is about "the feeling of being small in the face of something so big and powerful." He added: "For me personally, it's about overcoming obstacles and continuing to fight even when things seem impossible."
With its anthemic chorus and empowering message, it's no wonder Thunder has resonated with so many people. It's a song that reminds us that we all have inner strength - we just need to find it.
