In the US Billboard Hot 100 chart it debuted at number thirty-six; making it his highest debut on that chart until “Levels” reached number twenty-one in October 2012. In an interview with Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix on August 10, 2013 Avicii said: “‘Wake Me Up’ is kind of a mix between electronic music and organic music … I tried to bring those two together with this sound that I’ve been developing for a while so it was quite interesting to work on.” He also said: “It’s about waking up from a dream essentially … being woken up from something wonderful.”
